Luck Of The Irish: Snyder Earns St. Patrick’s Day Endorsement Of Former Lord Mayor Of Dublin Royston Brady

As Virginians of all backgrounds prepare to celebrate Irish heritage on St. Patrick’s Day this weekend, the Virginian-Pilot reports that entrepreneur, job-creator and conservative Lieutenant Governor candidate Pete Snyder is announcing an “endorsement from Royston Brady, former Lord Mayor of Dublin City, Ireland in 2003 and 2004 who now lives in Virginia Beach.”

Brady, whose full remarks are included below, praised Snyder as “hard-working, …a strategic thinker,” and “a leader full of innovative ideas,” noting Pete’s “integrity and his huge appetite for public service,” as well as his commitment to civil and economic liberty.

“At its core, Pete Snyder’s campaign is characterised by the need to uphold and preserve the great personal freedoms and individual liberties which have made America great. Pete has a huge respect for the rights enumerated in the United States Bill of Rights and this is the type of resolute political leadership Virginia needs in these challenging times,” said Brady. “As someone who has relocated to Virginia Beach for business reasons, I greatly appreciate Pete’s commitment to economic freedom. He intuitively understands that the free market and lower taxes are necessary to generate prosperity, to drive enterprise and to create and maintain well-paid employment in Virginia. I believe that with Pete’s experience and career track-record, he has the capacity to make a huge contribution to the quality of life and economic security of the people of Virginia. I will be doing my utmost to ensure that he is elected and I am honoured to endorse his campaign.”

St. Patrick’s Day is a hugely significant day for the vast number of people of Irish extraction living in Virginia.  I am delighted to take this opportunity to endorse the campaign of Pete Snyder for the post of Lt. Governor of Virginia.

Having spent many years in politics and having served as the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ireland’s capital city, I believe I have a good insight into the attributes that define a great political leader.  I see so many of these qualities in Pete Snyder and I believe he can make a hugely positive contribution to Virginia’s future.

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Pete well since I became resident in Virginia and I have been hugely impressed by his political abilities, his integrity and his huge appetite for public service.  Pete Snyder is hard-working, he is a strategic thinker, he is a leader full of innovative ideas and he cares deeply about our community.  I believe that he will do a first-class job as Lt. Governor of Virginia and is eminently worthy of the people’s support.

St. Patrick’s Day is a time for Irish-Americans to reflect on the enduring bonds that tie our nations together.  From America’s earliest days, the Irish have shown great commitment to the development of the United States with many Irish men playing a distinguished role in America’s War of Independence.  Virginia’s greatest political son, George Washington, acknowledged this support when he famously said “Ireland, thou friend of my country in my country’s most friendless days, much injured, much enduring land, accept this poor tribute from one who esteems thy worth, and mourns thy desolation.”

In our own time, it is important to note that Pete Snyder has a good insight and deep respect for the strong historical ties of affinity that unite the Irish and American people.  Pete has been and remains a strong friend, supporter and advocate of Irish people living in the United States.

The Irish, like the Americans, know the price of freedom and recognize that this precious concept has to be defended at every hands turn.  A great Irish-American President, Ronald Reagan, once said “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”

At its core, Pete Snyder’s campaign is characterised by the need to uphold and preserve the great personal freedoms and individual liberties which have made America great.  Pete has a huge respect for the rights enumerated in the United States Bill of Rights and this is the type of resolute political leadership Virginia needs in these challenging times.  Pete crucially supports the greatest freedom of all, the right to life.  He is whole-heartedly pro-life and this will have a powerful resonance and find strong support with people of Irish extraction.
